NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – After a year-long investigation, police have arrested a 24-year-old man, on Tuesday in connection with a deadly shooting of a man in East Harlem last year.
Camby Wilson, the suspect, was serving a sentence in a Maine federal prison due to a gun-related arrest and now faces murder charges for the East Harlem shooting that was captured on surveillance footage.
The killing happened on the night of Feb. 25, 2022, when Shaquell Gainey, 25, was shot in the chest by a gunman dressed in all black outside 2251 First Ave. while leaving a liquor store.
The victim was taken to NYC Health & Hospital/Harlem, where he was later declared dead.
Gainey lived a block away from the liquor store in the Jefferson Houses.
Wilson is now being charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
His prior conviction in Bangor, Maine, for federal firearm charges resulted in a 24-month prison sentence handed down in May, according to The Daily News.
