NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 66-year-old man who fatally shot a 26-year-old deli worker was sentenced to 22 years in prison, the Queens District Attorney's Office announced Tuesday.
Steven Cohen fatally shot Tarwala Mahmadkhurshid after an argument at Cross Bay Express Deli on Cross Bay Boulevard near Pitkin Avenue in Ozone Park on Oct. 26, 2020, according to officials.
He also fired at another store employee, but missed.
"The callous actions of this defendant cost the life of an innocent man who was simply doing his job," said Queens DA Melinda Katz. "I hope the victim's family will find a measure of closure in knowing the defendant will serve a long prison sentence."
Cohen pleaded guilty to manslaughter on March 30.
In addition to the 22-year sentence, he will have to serve five years post-release supervision.
