NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man was sentenced to prison for punching a 64-year-old Jewish man in Central Park after making antisemitic remarks and, in a separate incident, attacking a 63-year-old Asian woman in Times Square while making anti-Asian remarks, prosecutors announced.

Perin Jacobchuk, 34, was sentenced after pleading guilty in September to one count each of assault in the third degree as a hate crime and assault in the second degree as a hate crime, according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg Jr.

“Perin Jacobchuk will serve state prison time for committing two, separate, brutal attacks fueled by his prejudices and biases,” said Bragg. “These hate crimes left both New Yorkers with physical injuries, which they have thankfully fully recovered from.”

According to court documents, the first incident occurred on Aug. 15, 2021, near West 54th Street and Broadway. A woman and her husband, both of Asian descent, walked past Jacobchuk, who yelled, “Go back to China,” and other anti-Asian remarks. He then ran up behind the woman, grabbed her shoulders, and pushed her to the ground. She fell onto the concrete stairs of the Ameritania Hotel, injuring her back and legs.

The second incident happened on Dec. 4, 2022, at around 7:00 p.m.,when a Jewish man saw Jacobchuk in Central Park making a Nazi salute and saying, “Kanye for President, Kanye 2024.” As the man approached, he heard Jacobchuk using antisemitic slurs and remarks, including “Kill the Jews.” The man confronted Jacobchuk about his behavior, but Jacobchuk responded by walking toward him, repeating the same antisemitic slurs and remarks, including “Kill the Jews” and “Gas the k**kes.”

As the victim tried to walk away, Jacobchuk followed him on a bike, continued making antisemitic remarks, and punched him in the back of the head, knocking him to the ground. The man suffered a concussion, a broken bone in his right hand, a broken left kneecap, and dental injuries that required extensive work. These injuries made it hard for him to eat, use his hand, or put weight on his knee for months.

Jacobchuk was sentenced to 3 1/2 years in state prison and sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in state prison, to be served concurrently.
