NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – A man forced his way into a woman's Brooklyn apartment, where he sexually assaulted and robbed her at knifepoint earlier this week, police said Thursday as they searched for a suspect.

The 26-year-old victim was entering her apartment building at Malcolm X Boulevard and Kosciuszko Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 4:30 a.m. Monday when the man came up to her and said, "Let me in the building."

The woman refused, and the man took out a box cutter and threatened her with it, police said.

The woman agreed to take the man up to her apartment. Once inside, he sexually assaulted her at knifepoint, police said.

The man also stole the woman's iPhone and $200 in jewelry before taking off, according to police.

The woman was transported to Woodhull Hospital, where she was treated and released.

The NYPD's Special Victims Unit is investigating.

Police released surveillance images of the suspect Thursday. They believe he's about 40 years old.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
