Man stole money, threatened clerks at 3 Manhattan laundromats: police

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Police are on the lookout for a man accused of robbing three different laundromats across Manhattan in just a week.

The first incident occurred on Aug. 11, where police say the man entered Best Cleaners Laundromat at 99 Avenue A just after 7 a.m.


The man demanded money from a register, and a clerk handed over about $100 before the man fled.

The next instance happened Monday at New Phoenix Laundromat and Cleaners at 199 1st Ave. at about 9 a.m., located just a few blocks from the first alleged crime.

The man allegedly demanded cash from a clerk while wielding a screwdriver. He made off with about $250 and fled westbound on East 12th Street.

The third and most recent incident happened Wednesday at Ms. Bubble Laundromat at 202 Rivington St., located under a mile from the first laundromat affected.

At about 8:30 a.m., police said the man demanded cash and wielded what looked like a knife at the clerk. He ended up with about $400 and fled west on Rivington Street.

No injuries were reported across the three incidents.

Police described the man as a light-skinned male, approximately in his 40s.
