VIDEO: Man throws mystery liquid on MTA worker at Bronx station, suspect sought

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Police are searching for the man who threw an unknown liquid on an MTA employee at a subway station in the Bronx this week.

The worker, a 43-year-old woman, was hospitalized after the attack Wednesday morning, police said Thursday as they released video of the incident.

The worker was inside the Third Avenue–138th Street station in Mott Haven just after 11 a.m. when the man targeted her.

As the worker was exiting a transit booth, the man came up and threw the unknown liquid at her.

Police said the liquid struck her left arm, hair and left eye.

She was taken to Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where she was in stable condition with pain and irritation to her left eye.

Police haven't said what they suspect the liquid was.

The suspect fled the station after the attack, police said.

NYC Transit Interim President Craig Cipriano said in a statement Thursday that the MTA was assisting police in their investigation of the assault.

"Attacks of any kind on transit workers are unacceptable," Cipriano said. "There are security cameras in every subway station to make it abundantly clear to criminals who target MTA workers and customers that they will be identified and face justice. We will do everything possible to help the NYPD find this perpetrator."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
