NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a man they say broke into a sleeping woman's West Village apartment and tried to rape and rob her last month.
The 31-year-old woman was asleep inside her second-floor apartment near West 4th Street and 8th Avenue around 12:35 a.m. on Jan. 22 when the man managed to enter the residence, police said Wednesday.

The woman awoke and discovered the man inside her bedroom, at which point he demanded cash, the NYPD said.
The woman handed the man an envelope containing $600, but the man then demanded she perform a sex act on him, police said.
The woman managed to fight the man off, and the cash was torn in half during the struggle, the NYPD said.
The man fled her apartment with half of the torn cash, police said. The attack left the woman with a bruise on her arm, but she refused medical attention, the NYPD said.
The suspect was last seen wearing a red cloth mask and a dark-colored baseball cap emblazoned with the word "BRONX," police said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
