The man was riding the Citi Bike near Pitkin Avenue and Barbey Street in East New York just after 9 a.m. on July 24 when Simmons came up and touched his pockets while demanding his property, police said.
When the man resisted, Simmons began punching and kicking him in the face and body, according to police.

Video released by the NYPD on Sunday shows the thief pummeling the man and knocking him to the ground before kicking him and rummaging through his pockets.
Police said Simmons stole the man's cell phone and silver necklace before fleeing down Pitkin Avenue.
The victim suffered a broken wrist, broken nose and lacerations across his body, police said. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was in stable condition.
Simmons' attorney information wasn't immediately available Thursday.
