Both the Yankees and Mets have three finalists for the 2026 Rawlings Gold Glove Award, as announced on Wednesday morning.
Each position has three finalists, with the winners being announced on Nov. 1.
For the Yanks, Austin Wells is a finalist at catcher, hardly a surprise given his defensive prowess behind the plate, both as a framer and efficiency with ABS challenges. He finished second in all of baseball in defensive runs saved among catchers this year.
Wells, who has never won the award, is pitted against Detroit's Dillon Dingler (first in DRS in 2026), and Toronto's Brandon Valenzuela.
Cody Bellinger is a finalist in left field, going up against Tampa speedster Chandler Simpson and Texas standout Wyatt Langford. Bellinger last won a Gold Glove in 2019 with the Dodgers, when he also won MVP. Based on defensive runs saved, Bellinger was by far the most reliable left fielder in the league in 2026, with his mark of 21 well above Milwaukee's Jackson Chourio's 13.
Teammate Jose Caballero has never won the award, but he is nominated this year at the utility spot.
For the Mets, their catcher is also nominated, as Luis Torrens looks to win a Gold Glove for the first time in his career. The nine-year veteran will have to beat out Freddy Fermin of the Padres and Gabriel Moreno of the Diamondbacks.
Torrens' battery mate Nolan McLean is a finalist at pitcher, part of a trio that includes Michael McGreevy of the Cardinals and division rival Chris Sale of the Braves. McLean ranked third in the National League in DRS this season, behind only McGreevy and Shota Imanaga of the Cubs.
The Mets could have two rookies win a Gold Glove this year, as Carson Benge is nominated in right field. He would have to beat out Arizona star Corbin Carroll and Cubs right fielder Seiya Suzuki.
The winners will be announced on November 1.
