NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The Metro-North Railroad on Tuesday fired an employee who allegedly called out sick to participate in the Capitol riot.
Will Pepe, who worked at Metro-North's Brewster railyard, was arrested and charged with participating in the deadly siege in mid-January.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Metro-North Railroad President Catherine Rinaldi said the agency "made it clear since the Jan. 6 attack on our nation's Capitol building that the apparent participation by one of our employees was unacceptable and inconsistent with Metro-North's values."
"After affording Mr. Pepe the due process to which he was entitled under his collective bargaining agreement, we have terminated him today for conduct unbecoming to a Metro-North employee," she said.
Pepe had been suspended without pay for the duration of the agency's investigation.
