NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — The NYPD is searching for three suspects after a candy stand owner in Midtown Manhattan was beaten and robbed early Saturday morning.
The victim was working in his stand at West 54th Street and Sixth Avenue just after midnight when two men pushed the door open and punched him several times in the stomach, he told police.
A third suspect was keeping watch outside the stand, police said.
Officials said that the robbers stole $600 from the stand's cash register, and the victim's wallet, which contained $100.
The three suspects fled west down West 54th Street clad in all black.
The victim refused medical attention at the scene, police said.
Police are still investigating a series of Manhattan newsstand robberies that occurred in the first weeks of 2024, in which four suspects made off with a cumulative $15,270 across nine incidents.
The investigation into Saturday's incident remains ongoing.
