NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 4-year-old girl was found safe in the Bronx on Friday—a week after her mother handed her off to a woman named "Apples" in Manhattan, police said.

Katalina Rios had last been seen around 9:40 p.m. Friday, when she and her mom left the Marcel at Gramercy, a hotel-turned-shelter in Kips Bay.

Police said the mom had suffered some kind of mental or physical episode and gave her to someone she only knew as "Apples."

Detectives scrambled to find her. An investigation that included a search of social media led police to a woman living on 144th Street in the Bronx.

That's where they also found Katalina, who was in good condition. There were no signs she'd been abused in any way, according to police.

The mom checked herself into Lincoln Hospital at some point over the past week. It was there that someone got word her daughter was missing, sparking the frantic search.

There are no plans to press charges against the mom at this point, police said.
