NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A man asked a teenage straphanger for money to buy diapers before robbing him at the Grand Central subway station in Midtown, police said Friday.

The 17-year-old victim had just left a 6 train and was exiting the turnstiles at Lexington Avenue and E. 42nd Street last Wednesday evening when the man came up to him just after 6 p.m.


"Can I have some money for diapers?" the man asked.

The teen declined to give him any money, so the man threatened him, police said.

The victim handed $20 to the man, who fled the area on foot.

No injuries were reported.

Police believe the suspect is in his 20s.
