NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Six people, including a mother and her 12-year-old daughter, were shot on Monday during a targeted attack in the Bronx, the NYPD said.

The shooting broke out just before 5 p.m. on the street outside of 3544 White Plains Road in the Gunhill section of the Bronx.

NYPD Chief of Department John Chell described the shooting as a "brazen and heartless attack by two shooters that opened fire in the middle of the street and into a crowded convenience store" at a press conference that was held two hours after the incident.

Chell said that video shows two shooters running across White Plains Road and firing at a group of people in front of a convenience store. When some of the intended targets ran into the small, crowded store, the assailants shot into the business.

While inside the store, one of the intended targets grabbed a 40-year-old mother and used her as a shield, Chell said. She was struck in her stomach, and her 12-year-old daughter was shot in the leg.

Four other men, ranging in age from 18 to 21, were wounded after being struck in the arms and legs.

Police have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, but said that it appeared to be a targeted attack. Chell said that Bronx detectives are working to figure out who the intended targets are.

The two suspects are men, and one was last seen wearing a Nike sweatsuit while the other was last seen in a gray hooded sweatshirt, Chell said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
