NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A mother, her teen daughter and their pet dog were found killed at an East Flatbush apartment on Monday afternoon, police said.

The grisly discovery was made by a family friend who forced their way into the apartment at 1296 New York Ave. around 2:30 p.m. Monday after not hearing from the 37-year-old woman for several days.

She was discovered in the living room with at least one stab wound, while her 14-year-old daughter had head trauma and was in a bedroom. Their dog was found with a bag over its head.

The mom and daughter were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities have been withheld pending the notification of their family.

The medical examiner is working to determine the causes of their deaths.

Law enforcement sources told 1010 WINS that detectives are investigating various angles in the case, including the possibility of a murder-suicide. No arrests have been reported.

A neighbor, Steve Schor, said there were signs of trouble last Friday morning. He heard loud banging and screams coming from the apartment and called police.

"We heard screaming, we heard the dog whimpering," Schor told WCBS-TV. "Police came. We told them what we heard. They went upstairs. They heard music, and no one answered the door."

The officers ultimately left Friday because they were unable to get a response. They returned Monday after the family friend broke into the apartment and found the victims, who had only lived in the building for several months.

"Nothing like this has ever happened," a woman who lives in the area said. "So to know it is so close to home is very terrifying and very disheartening."
