NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A motorcyclist was killed in a hit-and-run collision early Sunday morning in Brooklyn, police said — at least the third traffic death in the city since Friday.
Donnell Oakes, 45, was riding a Suzuki motorcycle when he collided with the driver of an unknown sedan at the intersection of Halsey Street and Marcus Garvey Boulevard in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 3:56 a.m., police said.
Officers responded to the scene to find Oakes, of Charlotte, North Carolina, with severe head trauma, according to police.
He was transported to Interfaith Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
More details on the crash were not immediately available; an investigation is ongoing.
Another motorcyclist was killed Friday evening in Brooklyn and a 44-year-old woman was killed Saturday night when a driver struck her while trying to cross a street in the Bronx.
The crashes are part of a sharp, 30% increase in traffic deaths this year, according to police data.
