
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The MTA announced on Tuesday its plans to issue commemorative MetroCards, plaster trains with decals and post specialized station signage for Pride Month.
Throughout June, the MTA will issue 50,000 themed MetroCards and decorate 50 subway cars, 50 Metro-North trains and 50 LIRR trains.
“The MTA is committed to delivering the message of equality and love in celebration of LGBTQ+ Pride Month to riders and we’re proud to make that heard loud and clear across the metropolitan area,” said MTA Acting Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara. “Customers across the MTA’s entire operating region will be able to celebrate all month long and feel welcome in public transit no matter where they live through signage, decals, posters, public events and so much more.”
The MetroCards will be sold at the following stations:
-West 4th Street-Washington Square
-59th Street-Columbia Circle
-Grand Street
-74th Street-Broadway
-Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue
-125th Street
-Christopher Street-Sheridan Square
The designs that will go up in subway stations across the city will also be available as limited-edition posters for sale at the New York Transit Museum and online.
MTA employees will be marching at this year’s Pride Parade as well on June 25.
