NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The MTA is adding more weekday service to the A and L subway lines starting Monday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced, providing reduced wait times for over 100,000 weekday riders.

“When we launched congestion pricing, I made a promise to New Yorkers that we would deliver tangible improvements to transit service and by adding more trips on two of the busiest subway lines, we are doing just that,” Hochul said. “More frequent subway service means less waiting on platforms and reduced crowding on trains—two big wins for riders.”

On the A line, one extra midday round trip each to Lefferts Boulevard and Far Rockaway will be added, making the average wait time 8 minutes for more of the day.

On the L line, additional trips will be provided during the morning rush with four additional round trips total. Two of those trips will be added at the height of the morning peak, increasing service from 20 to 22 trains between about 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Four-minute headways will also begin about 30 minutes earlier during the weekday evening peak period on the L line.

Trips will be adjusted in the early morning and late evening hours on Saturdays, extending 8-minute wait times through the 11 p.m. hour. On Sundays, the span of peak 4-minute service will start two hours earlier.

“Fast, frequent, more accessible service is a powerful incentive for New Yorkers to ride, and these latest enhancements on the a and l lines will only help us attract more customers,” MTA CEO and Chair Janno Lieber said. “Credit to Governor Hochul and the NYS Legislature for providing the funding to make it happen.”
