NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced their partnership with local community groups to aid in relief efforts for the 200 families displaced by the recent Bronx high-rise fire.

In the immediate aftermath of the fire, MTA chaplains joined community members and state and local agencies to provide assistance to those affected and their efforts continued on Tuesday when the MTA participated in the #StrongerTogether Big Drop Donation Drive organized by community members and groups.

MTA buses were used to transport loads of donated toys, clothing and other items to the families with the assistance of two MTA police officers.

"The MTA is a part of every community in the region, and I am proud to see our employees spring into action when they see a group of local families in need," said MTA Acting Chair and CEO Janno Lieber. "I want to thank our transit employees and colleagues at the MTAPD for contributing to this effort to care for neighbors following this tragic fire."
