NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — New York City is famed for its holiday cheer, but festivities like the Grand Central Holiday Fair, Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting make driving around the city a no-go.
The MTA is reminding drivers of the upcoming 15 “Gridlock Alert Days,” on which the transit authority strongly advises motorists to use alternative forms of transportation like subways, commuter rails and buses.
“New York City Transit provides the fastest, most reliable, and affordable means to get around the city all year round,” NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow said. “Take the subway or bus to avoid the gridlock and enjoy all the great offerings the city has to offer this time of the year.”
There were five Gridlock Alert Days in September to accommodate the U.N. General Assembly, but the majority will come between Nov. 20 and Dec. 19 as holiday celebrations create some of the heaviest traffic volumes of the year.
