NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A newly-painted mural in the Bronx is paying tribute to late rapper DMX.
Efren Andaluz painted a nine-foot-tall mural of DMX, whose given name was Earl Simmons, on a brick wall on Holland Avenue, near the corner of Burke Avenue in the East Bronx.

Andaluz has been a fan of DMX — who passed away last week after suffering a heart attack — since he was a child, he told 1010 WINS.
“He was a big humanitarian. He gave to the homeless, to the needy,” Andaluz said. “He had so much money, [but] he didn’t buy no fancy clothes. He didn’t have no fancy chains, you know. He was very humble.”

In a statement released after the 50-year-old rapper’s death, his family called him “a warrior who fought till the very end.”
“Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever,” they wrote. “We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time.”
