Trent Davis, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service’s Mount Holly, New Jersey office, tweeted out a graphic of nationwide local storm reports via the Iowa Environmental Mesonet.

The New Jersey office, which also ranges from central New Jersey and into parts of eastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, has seen 4,106 local storm reports between Jan. 1 and Sept. 6. That’s over 700 more than the next closest figure.

The unofficial figures were also filtered down to just severe storm reports, in which the New Jersey office came in at No. 2, just behind the Baltimore-Washington area.

The local storm reports at the Mount Holly office nearly double the figures seen by the neighboring New York office — which has marked 2,070 local storm reports by comparison in 2021.

New Jersey was hit hard by the remnants of Ida, which killed at least 27 people in the state, Gov. Phil Murphy said.

IEM data on the Mount Holly NWS office shows it has issued 51 tornado warnings, putting it among the top 10 regions in terms of those alerts, with all others being located further south.

The National Weather Service previously confirmed seven tornadoes touched down in the New Jersey/Pennsylvania area as Ida pushed through. The worst of which was an EF-3 that touched down in Mullica hill, New Jersey, with estimated peak winds of up to 150 mph.

President Joe Biden toured New Jersey and New York's Ida damage Tuesday, which included meeting with Somerset County residents whose homes suffered from the storm's impact.
