NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A convicted felon in New Jersey pleaded guilty gun possession charge Tuesday with plans to carry out a shooting spree to avenge his brother's death, federal prosecutors said.
Raheem Allen, 34, of Newark, was nabbed by law enforcement back in March with a semi-automatic weapon, boxes of ammunition and cocaine as he was on his way to Jersey City to retaliate for the death of his brother, a high-ranking gang member in the area, according to New Jersey Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig's office.
Allen allegedly told officers after his arrest that he had arrived in the city to "kill a lot of people," prosecutors said.
Cops caught Allen as he was entering a vehicle in the area after they had "obtained communications" in which Allen had discussed committing the crimes, prosecutors said.
Allen also pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to distribute cocaine. He faces a maximum 10-year sentence for the gun offense and a maximum of 20 years for the cocaine charge.
He is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 14.
