NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Gov. Andrew Cuomo directed state police on Thursday to help the NYPD investigate anti-Semitic graffiti found outside a historic synagogue in Queens this week.
A swastika was found scrawled outside the Rego Park Jewish Center on Queens Boulevard on Wednesday, police told QNS.com.
The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is reviewing surveillance video from the area, according to the report.
Cuomo said he had directed the State Police Hate Crimes Task Force to assist the NYPD with their investigation.
"I am disgusted by the swastika and other anti-Semitic graffiti that were found outside of the Rego Park Jewish Center in Queens—a place where many members of the Jewish community come to feel safe and at home," the governor said a statement Thursday.
"This hateful act is the work of a coward who only seeks to instill fear in our communities, and it will not be tolerated," Cuomo said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
