NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Several landmarks across New York City will be lit teal Thursday evening for Alzheimer’s awareness.
One World Trade Center, Gotham Hall, the Barclays Center, the Helmsley Building, One Bryant Park, Pier 17, Brooklyn Borough Hall, Coney Island’s Parachute Jump, One Five One and the Kosciuszko Bridge will all be lit in commemoration.

The New York City icons will be illuminated as part of “Light the World in Teal,” a program started by the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America to raise awareness for the disease.
“’Light the World in Teal’ is a tremendous initiative that demonstrates unity around the world in the battle against Alzheimer’s disease,” said Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., AFA’s president and CEO. “We are grateful to these New York city sites for shining a spotlight on Alzheimer’s disease and invite others to join them in going teal tonight.”
Individuals can participate in “Light the World in Teal” by wearing teal, turning their porch lights teal and turning their social media profile picture or cover photo teal.
Individuals who participate in the event are encouraged to raise awareness by posting on social media using the hashtag #AFALightTheWorldInTeal.
Also participating in the event is the City Hall Clock Tower in Yonkers, the 305 West End Assisted Living facility in Manhattan, Atria Senior Living Kew Gardens, Atria Senior Living Riverdale, Sunrise of Staten Island and Sunrise at East 56th Street.
