NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Buildings across the city on Wednesday night will be lit in different colors in honor of two different occasions: Blue and white for Israeli Independence Day and red for International Firefighters' Day.
City Hall and other municipal buildings will be lit up blue and white in honor of Israeli Independence Day, Yom Ha'atzmaut, which is tomorrow and marks the 74th anniversary of the founding of Israel.
Aside from City Hall, these buildings will also be lit up blue and white: The David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building, Bronx Borough Hall, Staten Island Borough Hall, and Queens Borough Hall.
"Today, we join in celebrating Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel's Independence Day," Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement. "As home to the largest Jewish population in the world outside of Israel, New York City stands with State of Israel as they mark 74 years as a beacon of hope and opportunity, and join with our collective yearning for peace, security, and the spread of democratic values throughout the Middle East."
New York State landmarks, meanwhile, will be lit red in honor of International Firefighters' Day. The landmarks in NYC that will be lit red are Kosciuszko Bridge and the Grand Central Terminal - Pershing Square Viaduct. The Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge and the "Franklin D. Roosevelt" Mid-Hudson Bridge will also be lit up red.
"Each day firefighters put their lives at risk to make our communities safer and we thank them for their service," Governor Kathy Hochul said in a statement. "On International Firefighters' Day, we recognize the dedication and sacrifice of firefighters past and present around the globe - New York State is a better place because of their service and we are forever grateful."
