NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- A city sanitation worker was arrested after he allegedly struck and critically injured an 81-year-old woman with a garbage truck as she crossed a Brooklyn street, police said Friday.

The victim was crossing 15th Avenue at 85th Street in Bensonhurst around 8:30 a.m. Thursday when she was struck by a Department of Sanitation truck making a left turn onto 15th Avenue from 85th Street.


She suffered severe trauma to her legs and was rushed by EMS to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, where she was listed in critical condition.

Police allege sanitation worker Kyle Brown, 34, was behind the wheel of the truck.

He was arrested Thursday and faces charges of failure to yield to a pedestrian causing injury, failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care.

An investigation into the collision remains ongoing, the NYPD said.
