NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The number of weapons seized in city public schools has surged this year, according to a new report.

Cops have confiscated 787 weapons inside or near city schools between July 1 to Oct. 24 — a 28% increase from the 612 weapons seized during the last pre-pandemic school year, 2019-2020, the New York Post reported Wednesday.

Eight firearms were confiscated among those weapons this year, compared to just 1 during that period in 2019-2020, according to the paper.

Police also reportedly seized knives, BB guns, box cutters and other weapons.

The report comes amid a rise in violence in public schools, with the city pledging to add more police and metal detectors to its school buildings across the five boroughs.
