NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A New York City teacher was arrested after he allegedly traveled to Florida to have sex with a minor he met online.
Zeshaan Naqvi, 31, was arrested at a hotel in Tampa this weekend, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said Sunday.
Tampa station WTSP reported that Naqvi traveled to Florida to allegedly meet a teenage girl he'd been talking with online for three months.
Naqvi picked up the minor at her Tampa home around 1:30 a.m. Saturday and brought her back to his hotel room before returning her home, according to the sheriff.
He then picked the teen up again around 1 p.m. and they returned to the hotel, where they engaged in sexual acts, the sheriff said.
Naqvi admitted he knew the victim was underage, according to the sheriff's office.
"It never ceases to amaze us the lengths predators will go to, to get what they want," Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. "In this case, a middle school history teacher booked a ticket, boarded a plane, and traveled across the country to meet with a minor who he had been chatting with for about three months. This behavior is deeply disturbing and serves as a grim warning to parents to monitor their child's online activity."
The sheriff didn't say what tipped authorities off to the alleged activity.
The sheriff didn't say what charges Naqvi faces, but WTSP reported that he was charged with seven counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and traveling to meet a minor after using computer services to solicit certain illegal acts.
It wasn't immediately clear what school in New York City Naqvi was assigned to.
