NEW YORK (1010 WINS)-- A rare celestial event, the aligning of five planets, will be best visible from New York City early Friday morning, experts say.

The planetary lineup on the morning of June 24 will be the most compelling it has ever been throughout the month, according to Sky&Telescope magazine.
“By this time of month, the planets are spread farther across the sky — the distance between Mercury and Saturn will be 107°,” according to the magazine.
In the following days, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn and a waning crescent moon between Venus and Mars will align in an arc across the sky before the sun rises. By June 25, the moon will have moved out of alignment.
The last time the planets aligned like this was back in 2004, and it won’t happen again until 2040.

Skywatchers will be able to view the alignment with the naked eye in the predawn sky.
Mercy, the planet closest to the start, will be on the lowest of the horizon, while Saturn will be the highest in the night sky.
"You'll have less than half an hour between when Mercury first appears above the horizon, and when it essentially gets lost in the glare of the rising sun," Sky&Telescope wrote.
So New Yorkers be sure to set your alarm and catch this bright phenomenon.
