NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A woman is lucky to be alive after a man tried to shoot her in the back of the head in the Bronx last week, the NYPD announced on Wednesday.

It happened at about 9 a.m. on Friday in front of 21 West 183rd St. in University Heights, police said.

The suspect approached the victim from behind and pointed his gun at the back of her head. He fired, missing her, before running off southbound on Davidson Avenue.

The victim suffered injuries from falling to the ground while turning her head to avoid the bullet, police said. Medics took her to Saint Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.

The would-be killer who is being sought for attempted murder was described by police as a 6-foot-tall man weighing about 200 pounds. A surveillance photo of him was released by authorities in the hope that someone recognizes him.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
