NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The New York State Public Service Commission on Thursday announced today that residential, business and wireless customers within the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Marble Hill section of the New York City will be introduced to a new 465 area code.

The new area code will begin to be used once the supply of central office codes under the existing area codes exhausts.

Earlier this year, the Commission approved an overlay area code to be added to the existent 347, 718, 917, 929 area codes in order to meet the increasing demand for phone numbers.

The current area codes are expected to exhaust towards the end of 2026 and new area code will be assigned to newly issued telephone numbers in the region regardless of service type.

The new area code is projected to provide telephone numbers for approximately 11 years.
