NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD and FBI conducted several searches Wednesday in a joint criminal investigation into bribery allegations that touches current and former members of the NYPD, sources told 1010 WINS.
The law enforcement action stemmed from an investigation into former Chief of Department Jeffrey Maddrey, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The investigation also involves James McCarthy, the chief of Patrol Borough Manhattan South, the sources said, as well as Tarik Sheppard, the NYPD’s former chief spokesperson.
The NYPD said McCarthy was placed on modified duty. He was transferred and replaced by Assistant Chief Melissa Eger, of Patrol Borough Staten Island.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed on social media that members of the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau and the FBI executed the search warrants “as part of a criminal investigation being pursued by the NYPD, the FBI, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.”
“The investigation is ongoing and concerns conduct by former and current members of the NYPD,” Tisch continued.
“This investigation and our actions this morning are part of the ongoing effort to fulfill that commitment and hold the Department to its highest ideals,” she added.
