
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) – An NYPD officer was charged for allegedly sharing a suspect’s credit card number with other people who unsuccessfully tried to use it at a store, according to prosecutors.
Officer Andy Urrutia, 23, is accused of texting a woman’s credit card number, expiration date, and security code to his friends on March 23, 2023, according to t Daily News.
Urrutia allegedly also texted “Lunch on me guys!” to a group chat.
The credit card was part of the woman's belongings which was taken away while she was held at a station house in the Bronx.
Urrutia also sent photos of the credit card, urging his friends to "Try it," according to reports.
The group, including one friend nicknamed "Lemon," made fun of the situation, and commented about using the card at Starbucks.
Their attempt to use the card was declined by a Starbucks barista, and they eventually gave up after four unsuccessful tries, according to court documents.
The woman reported the card activity after learning her card was declined while in custody.
Urrutia was arrested on Tuesday by the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau.
Urrutia joined the NYPD last year and was working when the woman was arrested.
It was not disclosed whether he handled her case.
Urrutia had taken photos of victims' and suspects' IDs and credit cards, an NYPD source told the Daily News.
Authorities are investigating if Urrutia shared other suspects' credit card information as well.
He has been charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, petty larceny, official misconduct, attempted identity theft, and unlawful possession of personal identification.
Following his arrest, Urrutia was suspended from the force.
He was released without bail by a Bronx Criminal Court judge and is scheduled to reappear in court on Feb.6.
