NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) – An NYPD detective was arrested for shoplifting at a Home Depot on Long Island over the weekend, according to Suffolk County police.

Detective Spec. Christina Cancel, 54, who was reportedly assigned to the office of NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, was charged with stealing $160 worth of merchandise, according to police.

Cancel, who made over $150,000 in NYPD salary last year, now faces two charges of petit larceny for stealing, according to public records.

The first charge is for taking $130 worth of merchandise at around 10 a.m., and the second is for a $30 theft at 11:53 a.m., according to police.

Cancel was arrested on the same day at 1:41 p.m., cops said.

She allegedly stole a six-port electronic tool charger, a Beyond Bright Ultra light totaling $128.97, and a USB three-port charger worth $29.97. For each theft, she allegedly placed the items in her cart and walked past the cash registers to the parking lot, according to court records obtained by the Daily News.

Police stated that under questioning, Cancel gave a fake name and date of birth.

Court records reveal she said that she was "Lisa Lopez," even after an officer cautioned her about potential charges for using a fake name, according to the Daily News.

She was also charged with false personation for giving a false name and date of birth, according to police.

She was suspended by the NYPD on the same day, according to records.
Cancel, who joined the NYPD in 2004, was charged with misusing an NYPD database and not reporting an off-duty incident requiring police response in 2015.

Found guilty, she lost 10 vacation days, according to public records.

She later served in the Citywide Traffic Task Force and then the police commissioner's office, being promoted to detective specialist last year.

Cancel is set for an arraignment on Jan. 26.
