NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – NYPD is preparing for the annual TCS New York City Marathon on Nov. 5 by stepping up security measures to ensure that everyone attending is safe, city officials announced during a briefing on Wednesday.
"There are currently no credible or specific threats to the marathon or to our city,” Police Commissioner Edward Caban said. “But having said that, we are still implementing a comprehensive security plan. The actual marathon course will have many layers of protection."
Officials also went on with the ceremonial painting of the iconic blue line that marks the marathon route during the conference.
The line serves as a guide for runners, spanning across the extensive 26.2-mile course, which goes through all five boroughs of New York City—from Staten Island's starting point to the finish line at Central Park.
1010 WINS will have live coverage of the marathon.
