Man tries to rape woman after following her out of Tribeca subway station: police

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are searching for a man who they said tried to rape a woman after following her off a subway train in Tribeca.

The incident happened around 9 p.m. Saturday.

Police said the suspect approached the 25-year-old victim on a Manhattan-bound F train from Brooklyn and tried to engage her in conversation.

When she got off the train at the Chambers Street subway station, police said the suspect followed her and continued trying to talk to her on the sidewalk.

As they were walking along Franklin Street, police said the man pushed the woman into the vestibule of a building, attempted to take off her clothes and sexually assaulted her.

The woman managed to fight off the suspect, who fled on foot. No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
