Voorhees Township, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Detectives arrested an NYPD officer for allegedly shooting another driver in a road rage incident last month in New Jersey, prosecutors announced Friday.

Hieu Tran, 27, a New York City Police officer, on Thursday was charged with first-degree attempted murder for the shooting of a 30-year-old man.

Tran was also charged with second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

At approximately 11:13 p.m. on Friday, May 17, officers responded to a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 73 and Cooper Road in Voorhees Township.

Upon arrival, officers observed one of the drivers suffering from a
gunshot wound. An ambulance transported the victim to Cooper University Hospital, where he remains in treatment.

During the investigation, detectives identified Tran as the person who allegedly shot the victim during an apparent road rage incident.

Ballistics evidence collected from the scene was ultimately linked to Tran's department-issued firearm.

Tran was taken into custody on Thursday at the New York City Police Department.

He is being held in New York pending extradition to New Jersey.

This investigation remains ongoing.
