NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – An NYPD officer suffered a broken nose Tuesday morning after a "disorderly" woman punched him in the face—at the same East Harlem subway station where a man was shoved onto the tracks and killed hours earlier in an unprovoked attack, police said.
The brazen assault happened around 8 a.m. as NYPD officers responded to reports that the woman was acting disorderly at the 125th Street 4/5/6 station.
As the officer approached her near the turnstiles, she punched him in the face, breaking his nose, police said.
The officer was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The woman was taken into custody and then to a hospital after saying she felt tightness in her chest and couldn't breathe.
Charges against her were pending.
The assault came just hours after a man in his 40s was fatally shoved onto the tracks at the same station around 6:45 p.m. Monday.
The victim was standing on the northbound 4 platform when another man—alleged to be Carlton Mcpherson, 24, of the Bronx—pushed him in front of an oncoming train. Mcpherson was charged with murder Monday night.
The attack on the officer also came just hours after NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller, 31, was fatally shot during a traffic stop in Far Rockaway, Queens on Monday evening. A 34-year-old man with a lengthy rap sheet was arrested in the killing.
Monday's subway shoving took place shortly after the NYPD announced it was sending 800 additional plainclothes officers to police farebeating in the subway. Officials have previously said transit criminals almost always enter the system without paying the fare.
