NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD released images Wednesday of four suspects who allegedly pelted police officers with snow and ice during a big snowball fight at Washington Square Park on Monday.
The four individuals are all males believed to be between the ages of 18 and 20 years old, police said.
According to cops, they "intentionally struck the police officers multiple times with snow and ice in the head, neck, and face" around 4:20 p.m. Monday as a planned snowball fight was taking place at the park.
The officers suffered injuries and were hospitalized in stable condition.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch called the behavior seen on the videos "disgraceful" and "criminal," while the police union has demanded arrests.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani faced criticism from some for calling the incident a "snowball fight" even as videos showed the officers were not throwing snowballs back.
Pressed by reporters again Wednesday, the mayor expounded a bit, saying, "What I saw yesterday in these videos is a snowball fight that got out of hand."
"I believe that our officers, just like any city workers, deserve respect," he said, adding, "I'm not banning snowball fights."
