NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating after a menorah was torn from a vehicle and damaged in Queens on Monday.

It happened at around 3:10 p.m. in front of 129-01 Metropolitan Ave. in Kew Gardens, a location that houses the warehouse for Tomchei Shabbos of Queens, a prominent Jewish food pantry, officials said.

According to police, the suspect approached a parked vehicle and forcibly pulled a menorah off the roof, causing damage to it. He then fled the scene on foot, heading toward Kew Gardens Road via 129th Street.

No injuries were reported during the encounter.

No arrests have been made, and the targeting of the religious display prompted an investigation into the motive.
