NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The NYPD said Wednesday that it would "reevaluate" security outside Trump Tower and other locations affiliated with the former president after the inaugural events for President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are over.
"From now through the inauguration we will have a robust presence at Trump affiliated locations included Trump Tower on 5th Avenue. After the inauguration we will reevaluate our security posture," the department told WNBC in a statement.
Sources told ABC News in November that the NYPD and U.S. Secret Service would work together to lessen the law enforcement footprint around Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue after Donald Trump left office.
Decreasing the law enforcement footprint would allow for a better flow of traffic on Fifth Avenue. A stretch of E. 56th Street on the south side of the 58-floor skyscraper could also be reopened.
Trump is not expected to return to Trump Tower in any full-time capacity. He changed his residency to Florida in 2019. After departing the White House on Wednesday, he flew to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, where he is expected to relocate.
