NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Students are on alert at New York University after a string of dorm trespassing incidents in the last few weeks.

Intruders are reported to have slipped past security at least four times this month.

"It's not the first time this has happened," one student said. "It happened a couple times last year."

An NYU spokesperson told 1010 WINS that the incidents are "troubling," saying that the university is taking the accusations "very seriously."

"Despite the very considerable measures we already take, we need to learn from these incidents and correct any gaps in coverage or mistakes," the spokesperson said. "For that reason, the President of the University has asked for a full review of residence hall security to determine whether and what systemic issues there may be and what steps need to be taken to prevent any repeats."

Ashley, a freshman, said that the situation is unsettling in light of existing security measures.

"They make us scan our ID and stuff and show our 'Violet Go' when we get in, so it’s kind of alarming that random people without either of those are able to get in," she added, referring to the security pass on students' phones.

NYU said public safety officers are now posted outside all dorm buildings.
