NEW YORK (1010 WINS/ WCBS 880 NEWS) – An off-duty city employee was arrested and charged on Tuesday with attempted murder, police said.
Diamond Matthews, 22, was an employee at the New York City Office of Technology and Innovation.
Matthews was captured on video in East Harlem at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday, punching an unnamed individual in the head while another individual was seen repeatedly stabbing the victim in the torso, according to the criminal complaint provided by the Manhattan District Attorney's Office and shared with Gothamist.
"I got into an argument with one of the guys doing laundry, and I got my dad to come rescue me," Matthews stated in the document. "We started fighting and a knife was pulled out, but I couldn't see who pulled it out. The other guy ended up getting stabbed."
The NYPD has been investigating the incident.
Bail was set at $15,000 in cash and an additional $10,000 as bond.
Court records indicate that Matthews pleaded not guilty to the charges, which include attempted murder in the second degree and attempted assault in the first degree.
