NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A suspect in the violent robbery of an off-duty NYPD officer in the Bronx over the weekend was arrested Tuesday in Virginia, police said.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tish wrote on X that Taveon Hargrove, 23, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals and NYPD detectives. A second suspect remains at large.
The attack happened just after 4 a.m. on Saturday in the vicinity of 1473 St. Peters Avenue in Parkchester.
According to officials, Hargrove and another man forced the 27-year-old officer to the ground, punching and kicking him in the face.
The suspects proceeded to hold a knife to the victim’s throat before robbing him of his wallet and iPhone. Hargrove then took the victim’s registered firearm and fled the location with the second suspect, on foot, to parts unknown, cops said.
The officer suffered multiple fractures. EMS transported him to an area hospital in critical condition.
Mayor Eric Adams said in a video posted over the weekend that the officer was alert and recovering. "He’s doing well all things considering, and he’s under good care at Jacobi, one of our finest hospital systems," the mayor said.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
