NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- An off-duty NYPD officer was punched in the head by a disturbed stranger in Queens early Thursday, police said.
According to officials, around 2:15 a.m., the 35-year-old officer parked his vehicle at Merrick Boulevard and 89th Avenue in Jamaica.
When he stepped out, a man began to mumble and yell at him, authorities said.
The man then punched the officer in the head, police said.
When the officer attempted to call 911 then man snatched his cellphone out of his hand and smashed it on the ground , according to police.
The attacker was wearing a white T-shirt and olive green jacket and fled in a unknown direction.
The officer refused medical attention on scene, police said.
