On-duty NYPD officer shoots self in leg at Bronx NYCHA development

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – An on-duty NYPD officer shot himself in the leg Wednesday evening at a public housing development in the Bronx, police said.

The cop somehow discharged his service weapon shortly after 5:30 p.m. while inside the NYCHA's Edenwald Houses.

The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported in stable condition to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including if the officer was on a call at the time, remain unclear.

Police said investigators determined that the shooting was not "criminal in nature."

No other injuries were reported.
