"That same gang member, who has an arrest warrant for grand larceny, has to be taken off the street. Because maybe the next week, he's going to go shoot up a rival gang member's family barbeque," Ed McMahon, commander of United States Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force told WCBS 880.

The operation was conducted from May 2 through May 13 with 200 law enforcement officers involved. No one was injured.

Officers spent months planning the operation and it aimed to disrupt gang activity on Long Island. They pinpointed and eventually arrested gang members with outstanding warrants.

When a warrant is issued for a person's arrest, usually police knock on someone’s door at five in the morning while they are still sleeping authorities said.

Since the arrests, crime has gone down in Nassau County.

“Among those arrested, Stefan Weathers. Weathers made at least a half a million dollars selling cocaine on the streets of Hempstead," Anne Donnelly, Nassau County District attorney said.
