NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A pedestrian was struck and killed when by a car that went out of control in East Harlem on Monday, authorities said.
At approximately 4 p.m., a white Mercedes slammed into a black SUV at 335 E 105th St., striking two men as they were crossing the street.
A 51-year-old man was pinned between the two vehicles. He was rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The second pedestrian, also 51, was struck and taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem in critical condition.
The 52-year-old driver of the white Mercedes remained on scene and was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. He was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangerment.
An investigation to determine what caused the car to go out of control is ongoing.
