NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- The major coastal storm that hammered the New York City area with pounding rain and powerful winds Sunday into Monday caused severe flooding in parts of the city, as well as in New Jersey and Westchester.
Photos show cars completely submerged in Elmsford, a village west of White Plains in Westchester that saw several inches of rain.
North Jersey got hit especially hard. Caldwell saw more than 4.62 inches, while New Brunswick clocked 4.10 inches. In New York, Central Park measured 2.41 inches and LaGuardia Airport got 2.32 inches.
There was also significant flooding in Paterson, which declared a state of emergency over the impacts of the storm. The city saw more than 3 inches of rain.
Streets in southern Queens, including in Rosedale, were also inundated by inches of rain, photos show.
The worst of the weather was on Monday morning, but some rain and winds were set to continue before the storm moves out entirely later in the day.
